Placement Testing Overview

After you are accepted at SUNY CCC and submit your transcripts, you will receive an email from Admissions containing instructions and access to the relevant placement tools described below.

English

The English placement is an online survey designed to assess your past experiences in reading and writing and your academic habits. At the end of the survey, you will see a recommended placement and then may choose one of the three English placements: ENGL 0980, ENGL 1010 with ENGL 0999, or ENGL 1010.

ENGLISH Placement: Course Descriptions

STEM program students are generally advised to take ENGL 1110 (College Communication) if their placement is ENGL 1010 (College Composition I).  Both of these courses prepare students for ENGL 1020 (College Composition II).

Math

The math placement tests are on the online platform Lumen OHM.  When you receive the email with instructions, it is important to log into Lumen OHM and complete the practice problems at least one week prior to testing to help prepare for the math placement test. There is a much more robust review (than the brief review sheets below) with help videos in Lumen OHM. Begin your practice with the appropriate level.
